UMBC’s Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI) is responsible for promoting and coordinating the University’s core values of inclusive excellence and equity, and has primary responsibility for managing UMBC’s efforts related to Title IX as well as other civil rights issues, including discrimination, harassment, hate and bias. The office’s mission is to ensure compliance with sexual misconduct and non-discrimination laws, regulations, and policies through prompt, fair investigations, education and training, and outreach and engagement.

Since its establishment in 2019, the office has launched the online reporting form for sexual misconduct, discrimination and hate or bias incidents which permits anonymous reporting by students, faculty, and staff. In addition, nearly all students, faculty, and staff have completed the mandatory online and/or in-person training related to sexual misconduct. The Office of Equity and Inclusion will continue to develop and deliver regular mandatory training on discrimination and sexual misconduct to all students, faculty, and staff to fulfill UMBC’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of our campus community.

UMBC’s Work Challenging Structural Racism

OEI also serves as a central hub to support UMBC’s commitment to inclusive excellence. UMBC is committed to facing the challenge of understanding our position in society and our role in dismantling structural racism.

We know that a variety of departments and divisions have sponsored and are planning events to support our community during this time. We will be compiling and sharing these here.
